Neither did I said that becoming a Chemical Engineer is an overnight process. However, both your article and your response clearly implies an hierarchy of effort in which Interaction Design requires less effort than Engineering. What most people ignore about design disciplines is that design requires years of study and formal training. You know that, because you are yourself getting formal design training, kudos for that!
Your article is interesting and well researched. My only ‘beef’ with it is the title, which I find misleading.
